The Swimmer
In this short film, Blayse Hayward tells the story of Walter Strohmeyer, who for most of his 90 years swam in the waters off Long Island in New York.
The secret of longevity often lies in our daily habits, and Walter Strohmeyer is proof of this.
"I get up in the morning, I move. I feel like a forty-year-old boy. The only time I realise I'm not is when I look in the mirror," said the protagonist of The Swimmer, a film that beautifully captures the spirit of communion between man and environment, the psychological power of ritual and the ability of water to rejuvenate us.
A daily ritual that leads you to feel the water to clear your mind, move your body and escape life's obstacles that threaten to derail you. When you swim, "you still have your problems, but I'm on the shore, I'm not there with you," says Walter Strohmeyer.
Walter is teaching us a multitude of lessons; our task is to look up, receive them and find personal meaning in our lives.
