Centennial of the First Swim Across Río de la Plata: A Historic Milestone and Five Commemorative Swimmers
This December 21 marks the centennial of the first swim across the Río de la Plata (12/21/1923),
undertaken by the Argentine swimmer Lilian Harrison, aged 19, affiliated with the Club Náutico San
Isidro (CNSI). To commemorate this milestone, on December 10, 2023, six courageous swimmers,
three of them from the Club Náutico San Isidro, undertook the journey individually.
The names of the swimmers are:
- Lorenzo Raggio, 49 years old, CNSI, completed the challenge in 14 hours and 22 minutes.
- Julieta O'Connor, 52 years old, CNSI, completed the challenge in 14 hours and 46 minutes.
- Alejandro Gianakis, 59 years old, CNSI, completed the challenge in 14 hours and 53 minutes.
- Tomas Larocca, 49 years old, Jockey Club, completed the challenge in 15 hours and 11 minutes.
- Mariana Díaz, 56 years old, completed the challenge in 15 hours and 35 minutes.
- Marcela Pereyra, 50 años, DNF.
